Returning to Worship

My Dear Friends

Psalm 95:1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout to the rock of our salvation! Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.

New Laigh Kirk rejoices together to worship, to sing to God’s Praise and Glory on Sunday 12th September 2021 beginning at 11.00am.

As well as a return to worship for the first time in 18 months,  I promised a party. We will celebrate returning together again with worship and immediately thereafter safely serve sandwiches and refreshments to encourage one another to catch up. Fellowship, friendship and belonging is a hallmark of New Laigh Kirk we rejoice and are glad in it.

The service will be a blended service catering for live streaming and the difficulties of having to sing wearing a mask. The format for the time being will remain the same.

We are not out of the woods yet by any stretch of the imagination so let’s also be understanding and respectful of those who still are wary and cautious.

In order to safely resume our Sunday services and other activities we are required to follow national guidance to limit the spread of Covid-19.

We invite all who will attend on Sunday to observe our safety protocols to ensure that everyone feels welcome comfortable and safe.

We invite you to use the hand sanitising dispensers on entry and exit into and from the sanctuary.

We invite you to adhere to the Track and Trace requirements. We have registered with Check in Scotland, test and protect and have included it in this email. If you have a smart phone this will allow you to check in before arrival at the Church using a QR code. Alternatively contact details will be taken on arrival.

We are advised to respect safe distances between families, couples and individuals although 1m physical distancing has been lifted.

Face coverings will be required to be worn throughout the service. Standing to sing is permitted and face masks must also remain in place while singing.

Freewill offering will be received on entry to the sanctuary.

Friends old and new, by adhering to these simple instructions we will enjoy the experience of being together again to worship God.

New Laigh Kirk is a caring welcoming church in the heart of Kilmarnock reaching out to you with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

In the meantime a prayer in preparation for Sunday

Lord, the Psalmist spoke of the desire for the people of God to meet

Psalm 121 sings, “I rejoiced with those who said to me,

"Let us go to the house of the LORD.”

Lord our hearts have been heavy for these past 18 months

As we have missed gathering in the traditional way

We have missed being with one another

That communal sense of communion with God and his people

We thank you Lord for the imagination that has been able to breach the gap

For the technology that has brought worship and your word into our homes

Where we have been able to worship together alone

May we not take this for granted

Lord we thank you too for our on-line family

That meet with us, maybe not at the same time of day,

Right across the world

Lord, as we sense the time to return to the church building

We pray for all that will need to be done

We pray for those responsible for health and safety standards

For the thorough preparation to make the building safe

Lord we pray for the planning of the service

To be able to find imaginative ways

To minister not only in gathering together but on line live streaming on the same day

Give us creative ways so that we can give our best to both

Lord we need courage and great wisdom for this venture ahead

Meet our needs.

And Lord we pray for us all

make us alert and caring for others as we gather

That we would be careful in how we enter and leave the buildings

Lord we pray for those who will not feel able to come

continue to bless them with contact available to them.

We pray that though curtailed in fellowship

Curtailed in singing

Curtailed in time

That gathering will bring us a spiritual lift

That it will be a blessing to us

That it will be a resource of resilience

As we continue to reach out in creative ways

May we who have hope in you

The imagination of the Holy Spirit

For your glory and honour we pray,

Amen

With prayerful good wishes

David
